Barley news Australia: Victorian farmers question grain prices for WA growers

Victorian farmers are questioning ABB Grain about why grain growers in Western Australia are being paid up to A$60 more per tonne for their malting grade barley, ABC News communicated. On December 14, ABB Grain was paying A$202 dollars for gardiner grade one malting barley in WA, but offering Victorian growers A$144.

ABB's Peter Jones says prices are higher in the west because there is a lot more demand. "In Western Australia ABB has a malting house, Joe White Malting, that needs to be supplied with malt barley," he said.

"What we're finding is the prices offered over there by the grain pool have been extremely high and for us to get some grain for our facility we've had to match those prices."
